gl_mvc2_147x80The die-hard fan favorite MvC2 is back on new-gen consoles. Well, sort of… Capcom just released downloadable versions for both Xbox Live (July 29th, 2009) and PSN (August 13th, 2009) networks. The game is the same version we have been playing for these last 9 years with a few options.

Now you can play the game in widescreen as well as adjust the graphics to either a crisp or smooth option as opposed the the classic-pixilated one. Of course, the most exciting part of the re-release is online play. MvC2 boasts the usual leaderboards, and player/ranked matches as you would expect.

After having our hands on both the development and final versions we can say that local matches but many of the players that have been playing the game for years will be disappointed online. A wise man once said “It is what it is…” Try not to rate the game itself soley on its online version – the game is still fun and will be just fine on these new-gen consoles. Trust us, you can put your Dreamcast away…

Marvel vs Capcom 2 is a two-player fighting game with 56 characters from both the Marvel and Capcom universes played in a modified 3v3 format. Released in arcades in 2000 the game was ported to the Sega Dreamcast in 2000 and then to the Playstation 2 in 2002. MvC2 is still held in tournaments like DEVASTATION and Evolution each year and remains one of the most exciting and competitive events found anywhere.
